Diana Ross Cited for Drunken Driving in Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. – Singer Diana Ross was arrested early Monday on suspicion of extreme drunken driving, police said.

A breath test showed Ross with a blood-alcohol level of 0.20 percent, which is more than twice the legal limit of 0.08, said Sgt. Judy Altieri, a Tucson police spokeswoman.

Police pulled Ross over after someone alerted police to a vehicle that was swerving, Altieri said.

The traffic stop was conducted at the intersection of two main streets in the northeast part of the city, Altieri said.

Ross, 58, was cited for driving under the influence, driving with a blood alcohol content over 0.08 and extreme DUI. All three citations are misdemeanors, Altieri said.

Felony DUI isn't based solely on a person's blood alcohol content, Altieri said. Altieri said cases in which drunk driving can be considered a felony include those involving passengers under the age of 15 or certain instances where the driver has been arrested previously for drunk driving.

After Ross was cited, she received a ride to where she was staying from police. Altieri couldn't say where Ross was dropped off.

The officer involved in the arrest told Altieri that Ross was polite and cooperative.

The case report wouldn't be available until Tuesday morning.

Ross' Los Angeles-based publicist, Paul Bloch, had no immediate comment, his office said.

Ross entered a Malibu, Calif., drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in May to deal with what Bloch said at the time were personal issues.

Ross has an initial court appearance on Jan. 13, police said.
