NEW YORK – Even Britney Spears gets lonely -- more often than you might realize.
Stages, a new behind-the-scenes DVD/book package for fans, shows the pop singer as she wants to be seen -- and her life is not all good times and glamour.
She eats alone. She paces her hotel suites alone at night. While other stars surround themselves with helpers, Spears packs her own suitcases and puts on her own makeup. She talks to mom on the cell phone constantly.
And she pines for a boyfriend.
In one scene on the DVD, by documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles, Britney's stylist is telling the star how she has fallen in love with one of the crew members.
"She's floating. I want to float. I want to be in love," Spears says in the documentary.
Whether Spears wanted to come across as a loner is unclear, but she told a small group of reporters at Planet Hollywood last week that the DVD and book are "very, very cool."
Most of Britney's friends, meanwhile, are related to her, including kid sister Jamie-Lynn, big brother Bryan and her cousin Laura Lynne Covington.
Closest of all is her relationship with her mom.
"It's really strange," writes Britney in the book.
"It's more like we're girlfriends than mother and daughter . . . At the end of the day, the person I want to see most is my mama."
