Excerpts From Alleged Al Qaeda Statement

Here are excerpts from a statement posted on an Islamic Web site and attributed to Al Qaeda that claimed responsibility Monday for last week's bombing of an Israeli-owned hotel in Kenya and the attempt to shoot down an Israeli airliner:

------

"At the same place where the 'Jewish Crusader coalition' was hit four years ago ... here the fighters of Al Qaeda came back once again to strike heavily against that evil coalition. But this time, it was against Jews."

------

"We send them (Jews) a message: Your practices in corrupting the Earth, occupying sacred places, criminal acts against our families in Palestine, killing children, women and the elderly, toppling houses, cutting trees, imposing siege -- all your practices will not pass peacefully without firing back. Your children for ours, your women for ours, your elders for ours ... And in return for (your) siege on lives and livelihoods, a siege of fear and terror that we will impose on you wherever you are, land, sea or air."

------

"Their operations will continue. ... It is a war between faith and the infidel, between right and wrong, between justice and injustice."

------

"During these last 10 days in Ramadan, we send you -- our brothers in Palestine and in Islamic nations -- our greetings ... with the two Mombasa operations targeting Israeli interests, so the greetings would have meaning."

------

"Fighters succeeded in hitting their target, which was carefully chosen, at a time when the whole world stands against them and indeed is hunting for them. It shows that this campaign is fragile, disrupted, and unable to stop the fighters' strikes."

------

"These two operations kill the Jewish Crusader coalition's dreams of protecting its strategic interests in the region and make clear that America and its allies ... have failed to hunt down fighters in the region, stop them from infiltrating or getting supplies, or prevent the repetition of the attacks of four years ago."

------

"These two operations put thousands of question marks and exclamation points in front of the allied countries that spent millions on programs to protect airplanes from the inside. Here are the fighters attacking them from the outside."
