President Bush is asking Americans to regard Thanksgiving and the upcoming holidays as a "season of service."
In his weekly radio address, the president noted that "many people struggle every day -- men, women, and children facing hunger, homelessness, illness, addiction, or despair."
He said Americans can marshal their own good fortunes in big and small ways to help those in need.
The president acknowledged that unfinished business, such as the ongoing war on terror, the prospect of war with Iraq, the sputtering economy, could leave people feeling as jittery as they are thankful this year.
Said Bush: "The blessings we have received take on special meaning in this time of challenge for our country."
The address was taped for broadcast while Bush was spending the holiday weekend at his ranch.
