WARSAW, Ky. – Two young children were found slain in their home Friday in an attack that also left their mother and another child injured, Kentucky State Police said.
The bodies of the 6- and 7-year-old were found in their Warsaw home about 7 a.m., said state police spokeswoman Lt. Lisa Rudzinski. Their mother and a 10-year-old were being treated at hospitals, Rudzinski said.
A man charged in the attack was captured in West Virginia, Rudzinski said.
She said Marco Chapman, 30, was taken into custody about 12:30 p.m. EDT in Shrewsbury, W.Va., about 20 miles south of Charleston. Chapman is charged with two counts of murder and two counts of first-degreee assault.
Police identified the slain children as Cody Sharon, 6, and Chelbi Sharon, 7, and the injured woman as Carolyn Marksberry.
Warsaw Mayor E. Richard Wood said Marksberry had been appointed city clerk this month.
She was in critical but stable condition following surgery at the University of Cincinnati Hospital, said spokeswoman Pat Samson. Amy Caruso, a spokeswoman at Cincinnati's Children's Hospital, identified the injured child as Courtney Sharon, 10.
She was in fair condition and was being treated for superficial stab wounds, Caruso said.
Alberta Allphin, a city hall employee, said the three children had attended Allphin's Sunday school classes in the past.
"No inkling or word would suggest that anything like this could happen," she said.
Marksberry's husband, Charles, has been in Spain for job training, said Susan Poling, a spokeswoman for North American Stainless, a steel production plant in nearby Ghent, Ky.
"Chuck has contacted his family and is on his way home," Poling said.
Warsaw, an Ohio River town of 1,800 residents, is 45 miles southwest of Cincinnati.
