NEW YORK – The Guys, the first feature film inspired by the events of Sept. 11, will have its world premiere at next month's Toronto Film Festival -- on the first anniversary of the terrorist attacks.
Starring Anthony LaPaglia and Sigorney Weaver -- and directed by Jim Simpson -- it's based on an off-Broadway play about a fire captain struggling to prepare a eulogy for eight men lost in the collapse of the World Trade Center.
The festival will also mark Sept. 11 by showing a compilation of 11 films by international directors inspired by the tragedy. They include Sean Penn, Claude Lelouch, Mira Nair, Danis Tanovic, Shoei Imamura, Amos Gitai and Ken Loach.
Festival Director Piers Handling said the festival would suspend all conferences, lectures and screenings until 11 a.m. on the day of the anniversary.
