Ex-Angel Jaclyn Smith Battles Cancer

Former Charlie's Angels beauty Jaclyn Smith is battling breast cancer -- just like her former Angels co-star Kate Jackson.

"Jaclyn caught it early and is taking a safe and conservative approach to this," her husband, Dr. Brad Allen, told The Star in an exclusive interview to be published this week.

"She's fine and doing great," said Allen, a pediatric heart surgeon.

According to The Star, Smith, 54, had a lumpectomy last month during which a small, cancerous growth was surgically removed -- then decided to undergo radiation treatments to "make doubly sure" the cancer would not re-occur.

Smith underwent the radiation treatments five days a week at a Tarzana, Calif. clinic.

Then, to celebrate her prognosis for a complete recovery, Smith jetted off to Europe with some friends.

"Jaclyn was terrified at first. This is a deadly disease and you can't imagine the horror a woman faces at the thought of losing a breast or dying," a friend told The Star

"You're on an emotional roller coaster and suddenly all-too-aware of your mortality. But the doctors say they got it all and Jaclyn is breathing a big sigh of relief."

Smith's Angels co-star, Kate Jackson, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and underwent a lumpectomy, radiation and then a partial mastectomy when, two years later, a mammogram showed that the cancer had spread. She's fine now.

Smith, Jackson and Farrah Fawcett teamed up to star in Charlie's Angels, one of the most popular TV series of the 1970s.

Smith will be featured in several episodes this season of CBS' The District starring Craig T. Nelson -- while Fawcett will do the same on another CBS show, The Guardian

"Jaclyn has also been asked to participate in the sequel to the Charlie's Angels movie made two years ago, and she's launching her new furniture collection later this year," her husband, Allen, told The Star

"She's as busy as ever."
