Over half of Americans think it's okay for President Bush to get out of Washington for the month of August.

This week the president officially began a month-long working vacation at his Crawford, Texas ranch. According to the latest FOX News/Opinion Dynamics poll, a majority of the public (55 percent) supports Bush spending a lengthy vacation outside the Beltway while 36 percent think a month is too long for the president to be away.

Party loyalty is evident here, with 68 percent of Republicans endorsing the vacation compared to 47 percent of Democrats.

These results are similar to those from a poll conducted last year, when Bush took his first summer vacation as president and was criticized by some for being away from the White House too long. Last year, 52 percent thought it was a good idea for the president to get away for a month while 40 percent thought it was too much time away.

Polling was conducted by telephone August 6-7, 2002 in the evenings. The sample is 900 registered voters nationwide with a margin of error of ± 3 percentage points.
