Below the Fold for June 16

Let's check out some political stories we found Below the Fold:

Network Flags Lyrics

The American Broadcasting Company has made news again on the American patriotism front. Country music singer Toby Keith says the network rescinded an offer to lead off its July 4th special with a performance of his hit song, "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)".

He says Anchor Peter Jennings heard the song and wigged out, demanding its removal from the gala. ABC spokeswoman Cathie Levine says, "There were a lot of factors in play." One apparently was a line in the song: "You'll be sorry that you messed with the U-S of A, 'cause we'll put a boot in your ass, that's the American way."

Said Levine, "It's a song about anger. We want this show to be about strength and character, a celebration of America."

Going with the Flow

Georgia Democrat Rep. Sanford Bishop may have to answer to the Federal Aviation Administration for a little nature call last week. The honorable, evidently unhappy with the waiting line outside the first-class lavatory, asked a flight attendant for a paper cup and… well, let's let him explain what happened next.

REP. SANFORD BISHOP (D), GEORGIA: I stepped back into the corner, facing the exit door, behind the cockpit, out of sight, in a very private place, a 45-degree-angle corner, and I relieved myself in the cup.

Congressman Bishop then clutched the warm cup until a man departed the lavatory, at which point the Congressman deposited his deposit in the onboard toilet. The FAA could fine Bishop $1,000, but only if Delta Airlines decides to press charges.
