Outlines of an agreement taking shape to resolve the standoff at the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem:
• Israel and the Palestinians have been reviewing a list of 132 Palestinians inside the church. Palestinians say most of those would be freed.
• Israel and the Palestinians agree that some of the Palestinians wanted by Israel would be sent into exile, while others would be taken to the Gaza Strip.
• The two sides disagree over the number of deportees. The Palestinians say no more than eight should be sent into exile. Israeli officials refuse to discuss their demands in public, but Palestinian officials say Israel is seeking at deport at least 13 people.
• The Palestinians say about 30 would be sent to the Gaza Strip. A U.S. official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the parties were considering a U.S. and British role in transporting the men to Gaza and possibly guarding them there.
