Rosie O'Donnell's gal pal, Kelli Carpenter, is pregnant — and the expectant couple is overjoyed at the news, it was reported today.

US magazine said O'Donnell, 40, and Carpenter, 34, recently visited a New York gynecologist's office — where O'Donnell excitedly explained to women in the waiting room, "My girlfriend is here — she's pregnant."

A few minutes later, Carpenter emerged from the doctor's office holding "a small printout of a sonogram, and Rosie was all excited about it," according to the magazine's "Hot Stuff" column.

There's no word on who the father might be, or how far along Carpenter's pregnancy is.

Sonograms can be done as early as six weeks to document a pregnancy. To get a better idea of how the baby is developing, a sonogram is usually performed in the second trimester of pregnancy, 13 to 26 weeks.

O'Donnell, who already has three adopted children, recently "came out" as a lesbian in a two-part interview on NBC's Dateline to discuss a controversial gay adoption case in Florida and to hawk her memoir, Find Me

Carpenter, a native of Baton Rouge, La., graduated from Southern Methodist University with a business degree and worked at Nickelodeon, where she met O'Donnell's brother, Daniel O'Donnell.

It was Daniel who fixed Kelli up with Rosie in 1998.

Gal-pal pregnancies have become all the rage in Hollywood. Several years ago, then-couple Melissa Etheridge and Julie Cypher had two children. It was later revealed that aging rocker David Crosby had donated his sperm to the couple.
