NEW YORK – It looks like Ben Affleck quit while he was ahead — the movie star won $800,000 at the Las Vegas blackjack tables just a few days before he went into rehab for his addictions.
The Pearl Harbor high roller got lucky at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, playing three blackjack hands at a time at $20,000 a pop, the Las Vegas Journal-Review reported yesterday.
Affleck, in town with pal Matt Damon, generously gave away about $150,000 of his winnings in tips during the weekend binge, the paper said.
The actor, who'll turn 29 on Aug. 15, reportedly has a betting limit of $150,000 at the Hard Rock. But the casino lets Affleck, who pulls down about $10 million a picture, put down double its usual house limit of $10,000 per play.
"He's one of those guys who can be up or down $200,000. But he's usually so drunk, he gives it all away," a source told the paper. "It was just a matter of time before he crashed and burned."
A few days after his big score, Affleck ended a year of nonstop partying by checking himself into the hip Malibu alcohol-rehab center Promises.
His spokesman said he decided "a fuller life awaits him without alcohol."
