Britney Spears has signed to take her sugar pop style to the silver screen in a new coming-of-age movie.

The midriff-baring singer will make her feature film debut as a straight-A student who reunites with two former friends on a cross-country road trip, her agent, Brian Swardstrom, said Wednesday.

The trio eventually competes in a musical contest, which supplies Spears' character with a chance to sing and dance.

The movie, tentatively known as The Untitled Britney Spears Project, will have a relatively low budget — by Hollywood standards — of $10 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Spears, 19, began her career on Disney's The Mickey Mouse Club and has since done guest appearances on the TV shows Sabrina, the Teenage Witch and The Simpsons.

Her album Oops! ... I Did It Again has sold nearly 8 million copies.
