London Newspaper Claims to Have Letter From Saddam

Wednesday, May 28, 2003

LONDON —  An Arabic newspaper in London claims to have received another letter from Saddam Hussein -- this one saying the former Iraqi dictator is "hunting the cowardly American and British enemy."

The Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper has published other letters purported to have come from the ex-Iraqi president. Many people have been skeptical of them because photos of them displayed in the paper contained handwriting different from Saddam's.

The latest letter came with even less evidence. The newspaper published no picture of the letter, only the printed text. The paper briefly said the letter came via fax.

In the letter, the writer asks Iraqis to boycott the U.S.-British occupation government and to support militant brigades like the ones that may have been involved in recent attacks against U.S. troops.
