Recent Terror Attacks in Saudi Arabia

Some terror attacks against Americans in Saudi Arabia.

— May 12, 2003: Four explosions, including at least three car bombs, rocked Riyadh (search), the Saudi capital, in an attack on compounds housing Americans, other Westerners and Saudis. A company jointly by U.S. and Saudi interests was hit in the fourth explosion. At least 20 people died, including eight Americans.

— May 1, 2003: An American civilian working for the Saudi Royal Naval forces (search) was attacked and slightly injured in eastern Saudi Arabia. The State Department advised Americans that day to avoid travel to Saudi Arabia because of increased terrorism concerns. The U.S. Embassy said it had "received information that terrorist groups may be in the final phases of planning terrorist attacks on American interests in Saudi Arabia."

— Nov. 13, 1995: A car bomb in Riyadh explodes at a U.S.-run military training facility. Seven people die, including five American military and civilian advisers to the Saudi National Guard. The Islamic Movement for Change and two smaller groups in the region claim responsibility.
