British Soldier Killed in Apparent Accidental Shooting in Iraq

LONDON —  A British paratrooper (searchdied in what appeared to be a shooting accident at his army base in Iraq (search), British defense officials said Thursday.

Pvt. Andrew Kelly, 18, was killed Tuesday, the Ministry of Defense (search) said, adding that the incident was under investigation.

Kelly was a member of the 3rd Battalion of the Parachute Regiment, which is based in Basra (search), southern Iraq.

No further details of the incident were immediately available.
