Explosion Said Caused by Cooking Gas

MANAMA, Bahrain  —  An explosion was heard outside the U.S. Navy 5th Fleet base in Bahrain on Monday night, causing alarm but no injuries or serious damage, Bahraini officials said.

An Information Ministry official said the explosion was caused by a canister of cooking gas.

However, security officials at the scene said they were investigating whether the explosion may have been caused by a bomb.
