Doctor Finds Pea Sprouting in Man's Lung

At least it wasn't a watermelon.

Ron Sveden had been coughing for months, but doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong.

Finally, one made a startling discovery — a plant was growing in his lungs.

It seems the Brewster, Mass., man had been eating peas, one went down the wrong pipe, then grew to an inch-and-a-half in his lung, collapsing it.

One of his first meals following plant-removal surgery included peas.

"I laughed to myself and ate them," he said.
