This Can't Be the Same Country I Grew Up In

Wednesday, July 22, 2009
By Glenn Beck

Zdorovo comrades!

Normally I'd say "Hello America," but here's The One Thing: This can't be the same country I grew up in, because in the America I grew up in the headlines would be a whole lot different today.

Tuesday the debate was if the health care bill was socialist or not. On Wednesday, how about does the president even know what's in the bill or not?

(BEGIN AUDIO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED BLOGGER: Is this true? Will people be able to keep their insurance and will insurers be able to write new policies even though H.R. 3200 is passed?

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: You know, I have to say that I am not familiar with the provision you are talking about.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

The smartest man alive, Mr. Harvard Law himself, doesn't know anything about that oh-so-tiny detail of "will private insurance be outlawed"?

He knows exactly what's in there. Why do you think he wants to rush it through so fast? And yes, the slightest change to your plan means you are out. Hmm, what happened to Nancy Pelosi's "more private options"?

This is about structure and he'll say whatever he can to change it.

Take his bogus "our system is broken" line — his evidence? What he saw happen when his mom was sick back in 1995:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

OBAMA: I remember just being heartbroken, seeing her struggling through the paperwork and the medical bills and the insurance forms. So, I've seen what it's like when somebody you love is suffering because of a broken health care system. And it's wrong.

"Paperwork"? Not she didn't get any care or the quality of the care — but "paperwork"?

I'm not sure what planet President Obama is from, but on this one, the government isn't known for simplifying paperwork. Have you seen the tax code?

Now, clearly losing your mom, like I did at age 13, is horrible at 13, 33, 73 or any age. But, "paperwork"?

President Obama, weren't you like 34 and an attorney? That's five years older than the boy wonder auto expert you hired. You or the family couldn't help with the paperwork? Instead of just complaining that government isn't helping?

But no, it's America's fault.

I'm getting sick of the putdowns to America. Our systems are broken. We are greedy. Our cars are too big. Our butts are too big. The status quo is not acceptable. We have the president on world apology tours every other week: "We feel so bad about…."

No! I don't feel bad. Because America is good. I know that. You know that. But apparently the president doesn't know that.

Last time I checked, immigrants fleeing their rat-hole countries didn't aim their floating Corollas toward Russia, China or even Europe. They come here.

Hey! Maybe President Obama has found the solution to the illegal immigration problem: Just transform the country and make it so crappy people stop risking everything to get here.

I told you on Tuesday, we're not capitalist anymore. We are closer to socialist, but we aren't that either, because we are in some sort of a transition period. We are running towards a destination. It's our job is to find out what that destination is and then decide if that's what we want to be.

I mean, we've got czars now. Czars like John Holdren, who has proposed forcing abortions and putting sterilants in the drinking water to control population.

The latest is the nominee for regulatory czar, a Harvard Law professor named Cass Sunstein, who is a friend of Obama's and embraces the ever-so-popular '"senior death discount" that calculates the lives of younger people as having a greater value than those of the elderly. And he also believes in giving legal rights for livestock, wildlife and pets so they can file lawsuits.

Human rights for livestock? This is not the America I grew up in.

Let me replay something for you, something that Obama said five days before the election. Something we were not listening to with clear ears at the time. I want you to hear it again now:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

THEN-PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE BARACK OBAMA: We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.
