TEHRAN, Iran  —  Iran says four Iranians have been tried on charges of seeking to topple the Islamic establishment, allegedly with the backing of the U.S. State Department and the CIA.

Judiciary spokesman Ali Reza Jamshidi says the trial is over and the verdict and sentencing will take place in a few days.

Jamshidi told reporters Tuesday the four planned to "recruit others" to "send out for training against Iran."

He did not elaborate or identify the four. It's not clear when their trial started or how long it lasted.

In 2007, Iran released four Iranian-Americans detained on similar charges during their separate visits to Iran. The four — including academic Haleh Esfandiari, director of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars — were never tried.
