Tuesday, January 06, 2009

Zoe Smith is 14-years-old and stands 5-feet, 2-inches tall. At 126 pounds, she can lift 210 pounds, which makes her the strongest girl in Britain, the Daily Mail reported.

Smith, of Abbey Wood, in South-East London, England, was named one of the British Olympic Association’s Athletes of the Year when she took home a gold medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games in India.

She set a world record by lifting a total of 350 pounds in three events, which made her a contender for the 2012 Olympics.

“Seeing my name on a list as an equal alongside all the big names from last year's Olympics was unbelievable,” she said. “At first I thought there was some mistake and was a bit nervous about telling anyone, so I was amazingly happy when it sunk in that it was true.”

Zoe, who used to be a gymnast, started lifting weights when she was 12.
