DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan —  Intelligence officials and a resident say at least three Pakistani militants have been killed in a suspected U.S. missile attack close to the Afghan border.

Villager Yar Mohammed said Friday's attack targeted an abandoned school in the village of Medan in South Waziristan.

Two intelligence officials confirmed the strike. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

South Waziristan is believed home to many Al Qaeda and Taliban leaders.

Suspected U.S. drones have fired launched more than 30 missile attacks into northwest Pakistan since the middle of last year despite public objections by the government.
