NEWVILLE, Pa. —  A small plane with engine trouble landed along the toll highway of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, about 30 miles west of Harrisburg, a turnpike official said.

The plane went down at around 1 p.m. Thursday near Newville, turnpike spokesman Carl DeFebo said.

DeFebo said authorities received initial reports that the pilot had taken off from Carlisle, encountered an engine problem, and was trying to return to the airport.

The plane came to rest on a guardrail, DeFebo said

The pilot's name hasn't been released. DeFebo said he has been taken to a hospital complaining of pain, but his injuries don't appear to be life-threatening.
