The terrorists involved in a 60-hour standoff in Mumbai used cocaine and other drugs to stay awake while they battled Indian commandos, the U.K.’s Telegraph newspaper reported.

The gunmen, who reportedly received months of special marine training in Pakistan to prepare them for the attacks, also used steroids to strengthen themselves, the paper reported.

"These men were all toned, suggesting they had been doing some heavy training for the attacks,” an official told The Telegraph. “This explains why they managed to battle the commandos for over 50 hours with no food or sleep."

The only terrorist to be captured alive after the siege said the group were members of the Pakistani militant group Lashkar-e-Taibat. At least 172 people were killed in the attacks.
