ARNOLD, Mo. —  A 9-year-old eastern Missouri girl is seriously injured after she was struck by an electric saw her father was using to trim trees.

Rock Community Fire Protection District officials say the Arnold girl was standing below a ladder Wednesday afternoon when her father accidentally dropped the saw. It struck her in the neck and caused extensive bleeding.

The man immediately dialed 911 and held direct pressure to his daughter's neck until firefighters arrived. They continued to apply pressure on the wound to control bleeding while she rushed to Cardinal Glennon Hospital.

The child is listed in serious by stable condition.
