LOUISVILLE, Ky.  —  Louisville police say an investigation into the death of a high school football player who collapsed at a practice has been turned over to prosecutors.

Lt. Col. Troy Riggs told The Courier-Journal that their investigation is complete and that about 2,000 documents have been turn over to the office of Commonwealth's Attorney Dave Stengel.

Stengel spokesman Steve Tedder says Stengel will review the file and decide whether it should be presented to a grand jury for possible criminal charges.

Pleasure Ridge Park High school sophomore Max Gilpin died Aug. 23 at Kosair Children's Hospital, three days after collapsing.

Officials have said the heat index was 94 degrees when 15-year-old Max and another player fell ill at the practice.
