Python Devours Wild Cockatoo in Woman's Backyard Tree

CLIFTON BEACH, Australia —  Nine days ago, Cindy Lane witnessed a python eating a sulphur-crested cockatoo — but didn't expect her backyard would soon be the scene of another attack.

After hearing squawking in her backyard, Lane went outside to see a python feasting — this time on a wild cockatoo. She tried to stop the reptile by squirting it with her garden hose, but the snake was coiled around the bird.

"I couldn't believe my eyes, particularly because it had only just happened before" Lane said. "I can't quite believe it would go for another cockie that quick."

Lane said she can't be sure if it was the same snake as the previous attack. "It was horrible to watch, but at the same time quite mesmerizing."
