Teen's Blood Donation Leads to Rare Cancer Diagnosis

A Wisconsin teenager’s life was turned upside down after he went to donate blood for the first time.
Sixteen-year-old David Sczesny went to make the donation this summer when it was discovered he had a rare form of bone marrow cancer, the Milwaukee news station WTMJ reported.
“It was a big shock. I wasn't expecting that at all,” the high school junior told WTMJ.
Although doctors caught the cancer early, David still needs a bone marrow transplant to keep him alive, which could be challenging because of his rare blood type.
“I am hopeful, I really am, that there is someone there for David,” the teen’s mom told the news station.
The family is holding a blood drive and marrow registry this weekend.
