Oct. 16: Teachers, students and family members gather outside Providence Hospital in Southfield, Mich., after four students were shot at in Detroit.
DETROIT A teenager suspected in a shooting that killed a 16-year-old high school junior and seriously injured three others is the son of a Detroit police officer.
Detroit police spokesman James Tate says the investigation has been given to the Michigan State Police to avoid the appearance of impropriety.
Two other teens have also been arrested in Thursday's shooting near Detroit's Henry Ford High School.
Tate declined to name the suspects or say which teen was the shooter.
Tate says an earlier fight inside the school led to the shooting.
