6.5-Magnitude Quake Felt Off Mexico-Guatemala Border

TUXTLA GUTIERREZ, Mexico —  A strong 6.5-magnitude earthquake has hit southern Chiapas state.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake struck about 13 miles from the city of Suchiate, on the Guatemalan border.

Officials say the quake hit Thursday at 1:41 p.m. and was felt in Guatemala City, 130 miles away.

Emergency officials in Mexico and Guatemala say there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, although they were still investigating.

Many people fled homes and businesses.
