BAY MINETTE, Ala. —  A 25-year-old federal prisoner and convicted felon had only four hours of freedom after being released by mistake from the Baldwin County jail.

Sheriff's Maj. Anthony Lowery says jail workers on Monday released 25-year-old Napoleon Peavy, who was later picked up in Chickasaw after the mistake was discovered. An investigation is under way to determine what prompted his release.

Court records show that Peavy is facing two federal charges of transporting a weapon across state lines as a convicted felon.
