WEEHAWKEN, N.J. —  Police say a couple left their 2-year-old son alone in a hotel room while they tried to burglarize a home in New Jersey.

Gabriel Espino and Marsha Castillo are charged with seven burglaries and child endangerment.

Police say the pair told them about the boy after their arrests for the attempted burglary in Weehawken.

Authorities say the child was crying and had bruises on his head and scars on his body. He's now in the care of state child welfare officials.

Police also say they found laptops, video games and other electronics in the room.
