CHARLESTON, WV —  Former Charleston, West Virginia, resident Jennifer Garner and fellow actor and husband Ben Affleck have lent the University of Charleston a helping hand.

The couple attended an event Friday to raise money for a new gymnasium at the University of Charleston.Garner commented on her memories of swimming at the school and her joy at returning to West Virginia.

University spokesman Andy Spradling says security was tight, primarily because Gov. Joe Manchin and U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller. FBI agents and local authorities were on hand.
