'Big Dog' goes on a test run.
A robotic man’s best friend may soon become an effective military weapon, the U.K.'s Daily Mail newspaper reported.
"BigDog," developed by engineering company Boston Dynamics, was created to assist the U.S. military in combat operations, the paper reported. The computerized canine — about the size of a large live dog — can run, climb terrain and carry heavy loads of military supplies.
BigDog became an online sensation when more than 6 million people viewed a demonstration video of the robot on YouTube.
The mechanical pooch has an on-board computer that helps it to steer, navigate and keep its balance, the Mail reported.
