PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE, Manitoba — The family of the man killed and beheaded on a cross-Canada bus trip is suing their son’s suspected killer, the Greyhound bus company and the police, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
Tim McLean Sr. is reportedly seeking $150,000 in damages in the stabbing death and mutilation of his 22-year-old son on a Greyhound bus traveling west of Portage La Prairie, Manitoba on July 30.
40-year-old Vince Weiguang Li stands accused of stabbing the young man to death and displaying his severed head to horrified fellow passengers. Li was arrested by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police as he tried to escape the Greyhound bus through a broken window, hours after the driver pulled over.
The lawyer of the family said the RCMP officers left Li alone on the bus with McLean’s body for hours before intervening and failed to explain why, according to the CBC.
The lawyer said the McLean family hopes their civil suit will lead to increased security on Greyhound buses.
