Wisconsin Woman Claims Mystery Man Married Her Sister

Monday, August 11, 2008

A Wisconsin woman claims the mystery man known as "Clark Rockefeller" — suspected in the disappearance and possible murder of a California couple — duped her sister into marrying him so he could get a green card, the Boston Herald reported Monday.

"I know she was conned," Amy Jersilds sister, Beth Litza, told the newspaper. "They didn't date. They were introduced. They decided to get married, and then he divorced her to get his green card," she said, adding that after the civil ceremony, she did not see him again.

Litza said her sister married a man named Christian Gerhartsreiter in 1981.

A German man who lives in a small mountain town called Bergen positively identified photographs last week of "Rockefeller" and Christopher Chichester as his long-lost older brother, Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter, who left home at age 17.

Alexander Gerhartsreiter, 34, who was only 5 or 6 when his brother left home, said the man told the family in his last phone call to them in 1985 that he had changed his name to Christopher Chichester because Americans were unable to pronounce his birth name.

Investigators believe Gerhartsreiter, a German national who came to Berlin, Conn., as a student in the late 1970s, reinvented himself many times over as a Manhattan bond trader, art collector and moviemaker, and in Boston as "Clark Rockefeller," a high-society intellectual with ties to the famed New York dynasty, the newspaper reported.

Stephen Hrones, the lawyer representing "Rockefeller," said he had an hourlong jailhouse meeting with his client last Friday and acknowledged that he speaks German — but only remembers "bits and pieces" of his childhood, The Boston Globe reported.

"Rockefeller" allegedly kidnapped his 7-year-old daughter, Reigh Snooks Storrow Mills Boss, from a Boston street on July 27, touching off an Amber Alert and global manhunt.

The girl's mother and his ex-wife, Sandra Boss, has custody of her.

"Rockefeller" is being held in a Boston jail on charges of kidnapping, assault and battery, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, as authorities across the globe try to unravel his many aliases.

California authorities also want to question him in connection with the 1985 disappearance and presumed murder of John and Linda Sohus. "Rockefeller" has been linked by fingerprints to Christopher Chichester, who was living in the Sohus guesthouse when the couple vanished. Chichester disappeared soon after.
