Bernie Mac Hospitalized With Pneumonia

Friday, August 01, 2008

CHICAGO  —  Bernie Mac's publicist says the actor and comedian has been hospitalized in Chicago for pneumonia.

Danica Smith told the Chicago Sun-Times for a story on its Web site Friday that the 50-year-old is responding well to treatment.

She says Mac, a Chicago native who lives in the south suburbs, should be released soon.

Smith says the pneumonia isn't related to Mac's sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease. Mac's disease has been in remission since 2005.

Smith didn't immediately return messages from The Associated Press.

Mac made waves last month when he made off-color jokes during a Chicago fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.
