Pennsylvania Baby Sitter Admits to Burning Boys With Cigarette, Iron

Wednesday, July 30, 2008

PHILADELPHIA —  A 28-year-old Philadelphia has admitted repeatedly burning two young boys she was babysitting — with a lit cigarette, a lighter and in one case, an iron.

Tina Johnson of the city's Frankford section pleaded guilty on Monday to two counts of aggravated assault.

The boys, now 5 and 7, were in court and Johnson told them she was "sorry for what happened that night."

The younger boy was 3 when Johnson burned him with a clothes iron two or three times on his back, and once on his left wrist. He also was burned more than 20 times with a cigarette or lighter.

His brother was 5 when he was burned 11 times on his face, arms and legs with a cigarette lighter and lit cigarette.

Johnson pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and possession of an instrument of crime.
