LOS ANGELES —  David Hasselhoff wanted to be Superman ... but it didn't fly.

“I've had some big 'nos,' and they kind of threw me into a tailspin,” the "America's Got Talent" judge told Parade magazine. “The first was when I was up for 'Indiana Jones' and Steven Spielberg turned me down. The next came when I was up for 'Superman' and they passed.

“The latest big 'no' was when I brought 'Knight Rider' back to NBC. They said, 'We love the project, but we don't think we want you starring in it,'" Hasselhoff told Parade.

Hasselhoff, originally from Baltimore, skyrocketed to celebrity with lead roles in hit series like "Knight Rider" in the ’80s and "Baywatch" in the ’90s. He topped charts in Europe after bursting into the music industry, but his star status started to wane as he battled alcoholism.

But "The Hoff’s" special talent — making a comeback — wasn’t lost on his former home network, and when he got the chance to judge "America's Got Talent," he embraced it.

“There's no such thing as luck. You create your own luck," he said. "Life goes on. And we're blessed. It's a wonderful, wonderful business, except for the paparazzi. But there's also some times when you walk out and you go, 'Gee, I wish somebody would take my picture.'"
