A putrid-smelling man who repeatedly raped a 19-year-old student in her home has lost an appeal to have his conviction overturned.

Stephen Bruce Porter — who was dubbed the "stinky rapist" because of his body odor — was jailed for 15 years in January over the sickening attack at Wooloowin, Brisbane, on February 20 last year.

Porter, who was 42 at the time and infected with Hepatitis C, had pleaded not guilty to repeatedly raping the woman, saying it had been consensual.

However, a Brisbane District Court jury took just 40 minutes to return a guilty verdict on eight charges, including three counts of rape and one count of deprivation of liberty.

Porter took his case to the Court of Appeal in Brisbane earlier this month in an attempt to have his convictions quashed, arguing that they were "unsafe and unsatisfactory".

He also argued that the sentences imposed were manifestly excessive.

In a written judgment handed down today, Justice John Muir dismissed Porter's appeal, saying he considered the evidence was strong and supported the lengthy sentence imposed.

"The complainant underwent a prolonged, degrading, painful and terrifying experience," Justice Muir said.

"When regard is had also to the grave and distinctive circumstances of the offence, (Porter's) disease, his mature age, his prior criminal history and the impact of the offences on the complainant, I am unable to conclude that the sentence ... was manifestly excessive."
