Mindy McCready in Extended-Care Facility Following Emergency Hospital Visit

Thursday, July 24, 2008

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  —  Troubled country singer Mindy McCready is in an extended-care facility for undisclosed treatment following an emergency visit to a Nashville hospital, her rep confirmed to Usmagazine.com.

"Mindy McCready did receive emergency care at Vanderbilt University Medical Center," her rep told the magazine. "Other issues made it prudent for her to seek longer term and broader based treatment."

The New York Daily News reported Wednesday that the 32-year-old suffered a nervous breakdown.

Citing sources close to McCready, the paper claimed her longtime on-again/off-again romance with former New York Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens took a toll on the singer. The pair became involved in 1991 when McCready was 15-years-old.

"She's at the end of her rope," a source told the Daily News.

TMZ.com reported Wednesday that McCready had entered an Arizona rehab facility after mixing vodka and Ambien in an alleged suicide attempt.

McCready is on probation for a 2004 drug charge and lost custody of her 2-year-old son Zander with country singer Billy McKnight.

The singer was charged in June with violating her probation, specifically falsifying her community service records.

McCready had a No. 1 single in 1996 with "Guys Do It All the Time," but her career has declined as she had personal problems the past few years.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
