Whether it’s detoxing your liver, colon or entire body – this diet fad has become an increasingly popular way to rid your body of toxins and lose weight.

But, for a British woman – a detox diet called “The Amazing Hydration Diet” – left her brain damaged and epileptic, the Daily Mail reported.

As a result, Dawn Page, 52, has won more than $1.2 million in damages from a High Court.

The mother of two was told to drink an extra eight cups of water a day and reduce her salt intake to help her lose weight and prevent fluid retention, the Mail reported.

However, that’s when the trouble began.

Page began vomiting uncontrollably, and within a week of starting the diet in 2001, she suffered a massive epileptic fit brought on by severe sodium deficiency, according to the report.

After a settlement was reached on Friday, Page’s husband warned others of the dangers of these types of diets.

“Her life has been seriously affected, perhaps ruined, by this fad-type of losing weight,” he told the Mail. “I can only say this is a dangerous method of weight loss.”
