Woman Who Survived World Trade Center Attack Is Among the Dead in Plane Crash

Tuesday, November 13, 2001

NEW YORK —  A woman killed in the crash of American Flight 587 had had a brush with death in the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center.

Hilda Yolanda Mayor, 26, escaped from the ground-floor restaurant at the Trade Center where she worked.

Mayor was born in the Dominican Republic and was flying there on Monday to vacation with her mother and her two children, who had traveled there from New York two weeks earlier.

"She was my treasure," her mother, Virginia Hernandez, said from the Dominican Republic. "We were going to make a meal. We were going to have all the family together."
