Rep for Gaunt Barry Manilow Denies He Is Ill

Friday, July 18, 2008

A rep for Barry Manilow has denied the singer is ill after recent photos showed him looking thinner than usual on a shopping trip with friends.

This week, the Globe magazine reported that Manilow was down to 100 pounds, but his rep dismissed the rumor as untrue.

"Granted ... he's pretty trim. But 100 pounds? Give us a break. Even Mary-Kate and Ashley [Olsen] weigh more than 100 pounds," the rep said in a statement to media outlets.

The 65-year-old, known for hits like "Mandy" and "Copacabana," is "absolutely not" ill, she added.

Manilow is currently working on a new album and arena show. During his 35-year career, the singer has sold 75 million records and acted as a guest judge on "American Idol." His latest release is "Greatest Songs of the Seventies."
