Emmy Irony: Sarah Silverman Gets Nod for 'Matt Damon' Song
Thursday, July 17, 2008
Emmy winners usually thank their spouses or significant others during their acceptance speeches, but Sarah Silverman may have to give a shout out to ex-boyfriend Jimmy Kimmel.
The 37-year-old comedienne was nominated for an Emmy on Thursday for her song "I'm F---ing Matt Damon," a YouTube favorite made popular on Kimmel's late-night talk show back when Kimmel and Silverman still were a couple. It was created to celebrate their fifth anniversary in February.
Silverman was nominated in the outstanding original music and lyrics category, along with co-writers and co-composers Tony Baubirei, Wayne McClaucey, Sal Lacono and Dan Warner.
The nomination comes three days after a rep for the comedy couple confirmed they had called it quits.
Silverman and Kimmel, 40, met at a roast for Hugh Hefner, and Kimmel soon hired Silverman to do voices on his Comedy Central show "Crank Yankers."
Her "I'm F---ing Matt Damon" was followed by Kimmel's "I'm F---ing Ben Affleck," featuring Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz and Affleck himself.
