A Chinese woman who long-suffered with elephantiasis of the legs says she is looking forward to wearing skirts and trousers after having a life-changing surgery to correct the painful condition, Agence France-Presse reported.

Before the surgery, Wang Cheng, 24, who lives in the eastern Chinese province of Zhiangsu, has not been able to leave her house or wear regular clothing since she was 6-years-old because the condition caused her legs to become deformed and triple in size, giving them a combined weight of 110 pounds.

Last month, she underwent a free, 10-hour surgery in Taiwan to alleviate the swelling caused by this menacing disease by cutting away lymphatic tissue. As a result, her weight has dropped from 182 to 136 pounds, according to the report.

"I feel so light," Wang told AFP, lifting her legs without any difficulty from her hospital bed in Taipei.

"If it were not for these things, I would like to run and jump now," she said with a grin, pointing to the bandages on her legs.

If all goes well with Wang's rehabilitation, she is expected to fly home in early September when "a group of my high school classmates will hold a big party for me," she said.

"I cannot wait to wear trousers and skirts," Wang said.
