New York Thief Robs Sept. 11 Widow of Husband's Memorial Urn

Wednesday, July 16, 2008

PELHAM MANOR, N.Y. —  A thief or thieves who broke into a Westchester home took jewelry, sports memorabilia — and an urn commemorating a man who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Daniel Shea's widow, Ellen Meagher, said the urn, given to her and other survivors, did not contain the remains of her husband. His remains were found and she buried him in 2002.

Meagher and her family returned from vacation on Sunday to find the house ransacked, even the attic where the urn had been stored. Also taken was a New York Yankees jersey, signed by the team, that had been hanging in her 11-year-old son's room.
