Monday, July 07, 2008

BAGHDAD —  Police say gunmen killed a member of a Sunni political party in northern Iraq as he was standing outside his house.

The Iraqi Islamic Party has issued a statement condemning the killing of Abdul-Bari Ibrahim in a village near Tal Afar, 260 miles (420 kilometers) northwest of Baghdad.

The party is led by Iraqi Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi.

The police spoke on condition of anonymity Monday because they were not authorized to talk to the media.
