SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. —  Authorities say a kidnapping suspect was killed during a shootout with police in a Waffle House parking lot.

Gwinnett County police Cpl. Illana Spellman says officers were helping Sandy Springs police with surveillance for a kidnapping investigation early Monday morning when one of the suspects shot at authorities. Spellman says the officers returned fire, killing a male.

Authorities say a second suspect was taken into custody after the shootout.

Police have not identified either suspect. No officers were injured during the incident.

Sandy Springs police Lt. Steve Rose declined to give details on the kidnapping investigation.
