Jail for Man Who Stole Puppy, Blew Marijuana in Its Face to Make It Pass Out

Thursday, July 03, 2008

WHEATON, Ill. —  A Plainfield man has been sentenced to 60 days in the DuPage County Jail for stealing a $1,500 Pomeranian puppy and blowing marijuana smoke into its face until it passed out.

Circuit Judge John Kinsella warned 19-year-old Emanuel Lopez that he would subjected to frequent drug testing while serving 30 months probation after being released from jail.

Lopez pleaded guilty in May to stealing the puppy from a Naperville store. The dog was returned to the store three days later and has since been adopted.

His alleged abuse of the puppy was brought up during Wednesday's sentencing as an aggravating factor in the theft.

Kinsella told Lopez the "bottom rung of humanity" abuses animals for amusement.
